Charlie began playing guitar at the age of eleven and doesn't show any signs of stopping. He was born in Cincinnati, OH where his love of music was fostered. He has studied under Jody Chalk (Hank Williams Jr., Riders in the Sky) and D.C. guitarist Peter Fields. His styles of choice include classical, jazz and rock. Charlie is an avid composer which is both his favorite activity and teaching subject. He has composed scores for award winning independent films and documentaries featured at the Mason Film Fest and Uberfest. Charlie has also been very active in the DMV music scene over the years. He has performed with a variety of bands including his eponymous group, the Charlie Bare Quartet, a Motown cover band, and Take the Cake, a cover band specializing in weddings and private events. He is also well versed in piano and occasionally plays the harmonica. Some of his biggest influences are: The Beatles, Francisco Tárrega, Steely Dan, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, and Jerry Reed. When it comes to his teaching philosophy, Charlie stresses the importance of learning good technique early along with embracing the fun of music theory. He enjoys getting to know his students and believes each one brings to the table a unique set of goals and skills to be harnessed.
